Cleaning fixes stains, smells and allergens. It does not fix sagging or worn-out support. Here is how to tell which problem you actually have.

The short answer
Clean the mattress if it is still comfortable and supportive and the problem is stains, odour, urine or allergens. Replace it if it sags visibly, you wake up sore, springs are broken or poking through, or it has been soaked deep into the core many times. Cleaning a sound mattress costs a fraction of replacing it.
You will often read that mattresses should be replaced every seven to ten years. That is a reasonable rule of thumb, but condition matters more than age. A good mattress that has been protected and cleaned can outlast a cheap one that has not. Judge it on support and comfort, not the year you bought it.
A professional clean of a queen is typically $80–$200 (ours is $119 in Adelaide, plus any treatments). A new queen mattress costs anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, plus disposal of the old one. If the mattress is structurally sound, cleaning is the far cheaper fix — and it keeps a mattress out of landfill.
Put a protector on the new mattress from the first night. It is the difference between a mattress that stays clean for years and one that looks tired after one summer. Most local councils offer hard-rubbish collection or can point you to a mattress recycler for the old one.

No. Cleaning removes dirt, stains, odour and allergens. Sagging is a structural problem with the springs or foam.

If it is still supportive and comfortable, yes. If it is sagging or you wake up sore, put the money toward a replacement instead.
